There are currently nine active judges on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Republican Party. Of these, six were appointed by President George W. Bush, one by President Ronald Reagan, one by President Richard Nixon, and one by President Gerald Ford. The current court has a strong conservative majority, with seven of the nine judges being Republican-appointed. This has led to some controversial decisions in recent years, particularly on cases involving abortion and same-sex marriage. If the Republican Party were to win the presidency in 2016, it is likely that they would appoint even more conservative judges to the court, solidifying their majority. This could have far-reaching implications for American law, as the court of appeals is often the final word on legal disputes.
